Does Wall Thickness Affect Injection Molding Quality?

Plastic injection molding factory set strict standards for minimum wall thickness, which vary based on the type, grade, and size of plastic parts. Excessive wall thickness can lead to material waste, especially in thermosetting plastics, where it increases molding time and may cause incomplete curing. In thermoplastics, thicker walls extend cooling times. Uneven thickness affects product quality by causing inconsistent cooling and curing, leading to internal stress.

Proper wall thickness is essential and depends on factors like strength, cost, electrical performance, dimensional stability, and assembly. Common reference values include 2mm for irons and about 2.5mm for vacuum cleaners. Design should aim for uniform thickness and avoid abrupt changes. When variations are necessary, gradual or curved transitions help prevent deformation from uneven shrinkage, maintain strength, and improve material flow during injection.
