Mold Insulation System Design in Large Injection Molding Factories

In large injection molding factories, special attention must be given to the mold insulation system design. This ensures that during the mass production of plastic molds, the design won’t negatively impact the customer’s satisfaction with the order. Here are three key points to consider for mold insulation systems:

  1. Product Surface Design
The distance between the water channel and the product surface should generally be 5-6mm. If it’s too large, it may prolong mold heating time, while too small could compromise mold strength. The water channels should be parallel to the product surface and evenly distributed, ideally 15mm from the center of the material. Thermocouples should be placed between the water channels, at a depth of 50mm to 100mm, adjustable based on mold structure. Each mold should have a PT100 temperature sensor inserted into the cavity and connected to an external temperature controller.
  2. Mold Water Channel Connections
Water channel connections should be placed on the top, bottom, or back of the mold. The operating side, where workers stand, should not have water inlets or outlets to avoid safety hazards from pipe breakage.

  1. Mold Water Inlet and Outlet Design
The mold’s water inlets and outlets should utilize a flow divider design. The mold’s temperature control system should have one inlet and one outlet to reduce excess pipe connections, minimizing heat loss and improving energy efficiency. Additionally, the external surface of corrugated pipes should be wrapped with insulation tape to maintain temperature and conserve energy.
