Shenzhen Injection Molding: How to Solve Product Short Shots

Short shots refer to the phenomenon where the injected material fails to fully fill the mold cavity, resulting in an incomplete product. This issue often occurs in thin-walled areas or parts far from the gate. Shenzhen Injection Molding suggests that, for short shots in non-critical internal areas that do not affect the appearance, no adjustments are necessary. However, if adjustments are made, it may lead to the occurrence of flashing.

The main causes of short shots include the following:

  1. Insufficient Material or Cushion: Adjust the material volume or cushion until the product is completely filled.
  2. Low Barrel Temperature: When the material temperature is too low, the viscosity of the molten plastic increases, which creates greater resistance during mold filling. Increasing the material temperature appropriately can enhance the flowability of the molten material.
  3. Low Injection Pressure or Speed: During the filling process, if there is insufficient driving force, the molten material will not flow effectively. Increasing the injection pressure ensures that the cavity maintains sufficient pressure and material support before solidification occurs.

  1. Insufficient Injection Time: Adequate time is required to inject the material to ensure the product reaches its full weight. If the injection time is too short, it can lead to insufficient material being injected. It is recommended to extend the injection time until the mold is fully filled.
  2. Improper Holding Pressure: If the holding pressure is switched too early or adjusted excessively, the additional material needed may rely too much on the holding pressure, resulting in insufficient product weight. Adjust the holding pressure transition point to the optimal position to ensure the product is fully formed.
