Vietnam Injection Mold Design Overview

Vietnamese injection mold factories are well-equipped with both hardware and software, along with a strong talent pool, which forms the foundation for mold design and manufacturing. The process of transforming customer requirements into mass-produced molds typically takes 2 to 3 months, with expedited cases requiring at least 15 days. This involves going through over a dozen steps, with engineers frequently discussing how to meet the manufacturer’s technical requirements. They also need to select and thoroughly validate the mold materials.

The process begins with a customer inquiry. When an industrial product is nearing design completion, the customer contacts the mold manufacturer—either in person or via email—to inquire about their mold design and manufacturing capabilities. The factory’s engineers hold meetings to discuss the requirements and provide a preliminary cost estimate based on the complexity of the mold. Once the estimate is agreed upon, the design process starts, often utilizing multiple design and drawing software tools, including top-tier CAD software.

Once the 2D and 3D mold designs are completed, the mold manufacturer first creates a verification model using resin materials. The production company takes the model for practical testing, while the mold manufacturer simultaneously conducts its own tests and follows up with necessary improvements.
